Design for Manufacture
Because we are an engineering and manufacturing company, our design team is uniquely experienced to ensure quality and cost-effective production.
Some of the specific methods we use to save our customers' money and reduce downtime for rework:
- Optimise Design: A robust design has been optimised so that variations from the nominal specification cause a minimum loss of quality. To determine these optimal values will normally necessitate experimental work on a prototype.
- Involve all members of the team: Purchasing and manufacturing are part of the design process to offer their unique expertise. This enables all aspects of a design to be considered at an early stage.
- Reduce the number of unique parts: Standard parts used throughout and across product lines reduces time and resources spent on procurement and maintaining inventory.
- Eliminate the need for separate housings or enclosures.
- Mitigate polarity mistakes: So many manufacturing mistakes are due to installing a part 'backwards.' Extensive notation of polarity reduces this risk. 'Keying' the installation also helps. These efforts can be seen on:
- PCB design
- hole placement
- silkscreen
- assembly drawings
- programmed placement equipment.
- Utilize consistent lead spacing and forming: Standardizing lead spacing for parts saves retooling time and minimizes the risk of mistake.
